Leveraging on the strengths of City University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (CityU VDL), the Swine Team now provides more than 40 diagnostic tests to identify over 30 independent diseases and pathogens. Hong Kong local farmers are welcomed to submit swine carcasses to CityU VDL, where in-house pathologists or the swine team veterinarians will perform post mortem to examine the cause of death of the animals. Tissue samples are collected for further diagnostic testing, such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), microbial culture, antibiotic sensitivity test, and histological examination. Farmers will then receive professional veterinary feedback and tailored farm management plan on improving farm husbandry, biosecurity, pig health, and animal welfare.
