New features on the Epidemix Modelling App
28 February 2025
We are pleased to report that Epidemix, the widely used disease modelling app developed by Professor Dirk Pfeiffer and his team, and Petra Muellner, director of Epi-interactive, now has new features to facilitate its usage.
These new features include:
- Case studies on African swine fever and avian influenza originally only available in English, are now also available in Chinese, Portuguese, Spanish and Nepali.
- Two versions are now available for users (BASE and PLUS). The BASE version has a simpler interface suitable for beginners and it is more suitable for teaching large groups. The PLUS version includes different types of models, more options for tailoring and case studies.
An innovative tool designed to assist users in generating disease parameter values through artificial intelligence, allowing for the exploration of models tailored to the transmission dynamics of any disease selected by the user.
For those of you who have not heard of Epidemix before, it is a free web application designed to help users from various backgrounds enhance their understanding of mathematical disease modelling. With this app, users can explore fundamental concepts related to disease dynamics and control and examine how different types of models can be used to examine the spread of infectious diseases with and between farms and also amongst humans. However, we emphasize that it should be used for learning and not as a decision-making tool.

We would like to thank City University of Hong Kong and the Royal Veterinary College for funding the development of Epidemix app since 2016.
