Nobel Prize Laureates in Chemistry 2023 Planted an Important Seed for Nanotechnology
Prof. LEI Dangyuan denoted: The Best Recognition for Quantum Dots Research
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2023 to Moungi G. Bawendi, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA; Louis E. Brus, Columbia University, New York, USA; and Alexei I. Ekimov, Nanocrystals Technology Inc., New York, NY, USA, to recognize their discovery and synthesis of quantum dots. The Academy commented that they planted an important seed for the application of nanotechnology.
The Wenweipo interviewed Prof. LEI Dangyuan on 5 Oct 2023. He denoted that the awarded quantum dots research has demonstrated a cross-field impact among Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, and Engineering. As the only Department of Materials Science and Engineering in Hong Kong, Prof. Lei and his peers have actively engaged in the chemical synthesis and device applications of novel quantum dots, and the recognition from the Nobel Prize for these 3 laureates is yet the best recognition for quantum dots research in the academic field.
