The Outstanding Research Award selection process was highly competitive, with nominations and recommendations received from various Schools, Colleges, and Departments. After careful evaluation by a Selection Panel consisting of an external member and senior faculty from diverse disciplines, Prof. ZHI Chunyi emerged as one of the deserving awardees.

Prof. Zhi’s exceptional research on aqueous electrolyte batteries and Zinc-based batteries perfectly aligns with CityU's commitment to fostering an environment conducive to high-quality research at an internationally competitive level. His ground-breaking work significantly contributes to the University's overall research agenda and enhances its performance in this field.

Prof. Zhi has actively served the academic community, exemplifying his dedication to advancing knowledge and fostering collaboration. In addition to his academic contributions, he and his students have founded a remarkable spin-off company dedicated to the development of battery technologies for practical applications. Through this venture, thousands of batteries and battery systems have been sold, empowering flexible electronics and providing reliable backup power through UPSs.
