To ensure that standards are established and well followed in practical ways for the implementation of RFID technology in higher education libraries, the Consortium held the Seminar on "RFID Application Standards in Higher Education Libraries cum Product Exhibition by Suppliers" at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Library during 11 – 12 January 2013. Two important documents, namely, UHF-RFID Technique for University Libraries – Part One: Data Model Specification (3rd edition) and UHF-RFID Technique for University Libraries – Part Two: Application Guide (3rd edition) were formally announced and released so that there were "expert interpretation" of the standards and guide by the Consortium and "open discussion" on the floor with the participants and system suppliers during the seminar. Based on the data model standard and guidelines provided, system suppliers set up and show cased their products and systems in the booths provided in the venue for inspection and evaluation by participating libraries. Through the event, it is hoped that the use of RFID technologies in higher education libraries will progress with well-followed standards in practical and sustainable ways.
