The Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences and CityU Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC) are hosting four VetX Talks in 2025, where veterinarians share their personal journeys in building their careers, highlighting the challenges and successes they've encountered along the way. This series aims to inspire and inform future veterinarians about the diverse opportunities available in the field.
The first VetX Talk took place on 19th March 2025, featuring Dr. Toby Chu, an Emergency Veterinarian at VMC. Dr. Chu holds a special place in our community as a member of the inaugural cohort to graduate from the CityUHK Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) programme. He shared insights into navigating his studies, overcoming challenges, and becoming one of Hong Kong's first locally trained veterinarians. Additionally, Dr. Chu discussed the concept of rotating internships and shared his personal experiences during his time in the programme. He encouraged students to strive for excellence in their veterinary careers, despite the inevitable ups and downs they may face.
CityUHK’s BVM programme is the first and only professional veterinary degree in Hong Kong and Asia accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council. Our pioneering programme not only prepares students for a fulfilling career in veterinary medicine but also emphasizes hands-on experience with a special focus on animal welfare, emerging infectious diseases, food safety and aquatic animal health.
