The CityU University Farm saw the arrival yesterday of 24 elite health status pregnant Jersey heifers flown in from Melbourne, Australia. From some of Australia’s top dairy herds they mark the culmination of years of planning and development of Hong Kong’s only teaching dairy farm, which will be used for training our Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine students in animal handling, veterinary examination, animal welfare and husbandry, farm management and food production and safety. The heifers will live in a 5* dairy barn incorporating state of the art, research-based features to maximise cow comfort. By early February 2023, we will see Hong Kong’s only locally produced milk and ice-cream hit the shelves!
