Disability

The BVM Programme welcomes applications from students with disability or health issues. However, it is important to emphasise that veterinary medicine is a practical subject and students are required to safely handle and examine multiple animal species under various environmental conditions as part of their training. Therefore, we strongly encourage all applicants to become familiar with guidance provided by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) (https://www.rcvs.org.uk/setting-standards/accrediting-primary-qualifications/accrediting-veterinary-degrees), and the medical fitness standards for the veterinary students set by the UK Higher Education Occupational Physicians/Practitioners (HEOPS) (link). Applicants with a disability or a health issue, that may affect their capability to carry out practical procedures, are encouraged to discuss this in confidence with the BVM Admissions Committee before submitting a formal application. Student support and accommodation requirements for suitable candidates with disability will be discussed separately from the admissions application assessment. Accommodation discussions will occur when the candidate is in the admissions offer stage of the application process.
