Introducing CityU Mobile ID Usage: Convenient Print Job Release
In recent years, universities worldwide have been embracing digital transformation to enhance services and streamline processes, and CityU is no exception. An exciting development in this direction is the launch of CityU Mobile ID in April 2024, marking a significant leap forward in digital identity management. Rather than relying solely on physical cards, students and staff now have the option to use their mobile devices as a secure form of identification. The CityU Mobile ID takes the form of a QR code, serving as a reliable digital identity.
Demonstrating its commitment to innovation, the Computer Services Centre (CSC) has introduced a new feature: the use of CityU Mobile ID to release print jobs on the Quota Printing service. This implementation allows students and staff to enjoy a cardless experience, eliminating the need to carry their physical ID cards, The process is simple: users can launch the CityU Mobile App, display their unique QR code, and scan it using the printer’s QR code reader. The print job will be released promptly. Alternatively, users can still use the traditional way by tapping their Smart ID Cards on the card readers.
Following a successful pilot run that aimed to test the feasibility and user experience of this new feature, the CSC has extended CityU Mobile ID compatibility to all fast printers within the quota printing service during the summer semester. This expansion aims to provide a seamless and convenient printing experience for the entire university community.
