In October 2023, there was an important IT news update regarding the upcoming end of support for Windows 10. We now have only 16 months remaining before the deadline to migrate from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

Our records indicate that a significant number, approximately 2,000 computers on campus, are still running the Windows 10 operating system. It is time to plan and execute the upgrade of these devices to Windows 11, in order to meet the impending deadline.

The upgrade process to Windows 11 may encompass more than a simple operating system update. It may necessitate the replacement of the computer or an upgrade to its hardware. This is due to the specific hardware requirements of Windows 11, which include the processor, memory, disk space, and TPM chip. Computers older than seven years are likely to be incompatible with Windows 11 and will not be able to support the new operating system.

To avoid a high volume of last-minute system upgrade requests, we strongly recommend that users start planning and upgrading to Windows 11 as soon as possible, especially for older computers that may not meet the necessary hardware specifications.

If your computers are ready for the Windows 11 upgrade, please do not hesitate to raise a request with the Computing Services Centre (CSC) to schedule the upgrade for you.
