Mr Jonny Cheung

Senior Manager, Incubation & Acceleration Programmes, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation

With professional practices of global business and investment promotion, commercialisation of universities’ IP and innovation technology, Mr Jonny Cheung was the former Head of Life Sciences at the Consulate General of Finland – a Finnish government organisation for innovation funding, investment promotion, enterprises and export business. Focusing on accelerating the internationalisation of SMEs and identifying regional growth opportunities, Mr Cheung has successfully guided 100+ multinational enterprises in market entry and business expansion in APAC. Besides managing a team of consultants in four major China offices – Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, Mr Cheung led 30+ multi-countries projects with full command of communication protocol with high-level Government Officials, Industry Partners, Academies and Research Institutions. he also co-founded Innovation Business Accelerator to offer business strategies and landing support for global tech ventures accessing APAC.

Currently working at Hong Kong Science & Technology Park, Mr Cheung has already coached 150+ start-ups on business strategies and internationalisation tactics along the whole entrepreneurial journey from conceptualised ideation to commercialised incubation and eventual business acceleration. Mr Cheung particularly offers expertise in universities’ IP commercialisation, licensing and equity portfolio with commercial partners in the domain of biomedical and digital healthcare. Managed successful tech ventures and projects including bioinformatics solution for Covid-19, AI and big data analytics for medical imaging, early cancer screening, Alzheimer’s disease detection, Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and wearable sensors for personalised healthcare, functional food ingredient and plant-based protein for meat and agri-food production.

In addition to the in-depth and practical knowledge in the regional healthcare delivery system as well as regulatory authorities for product registration and tendering procurement processes, Mr Cheung has assisted in introducing the Hong Kong 1st Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Neuro-Navigation System for Brain Tumor Surgery to Hospital Authority as well as the Hong Kong 1st Shock Wave Therapy for Orthopaedic Surgery to the Veterinary Hospital of Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Holding a Biotechnology Degree, Professional Diploma in Marketing Management, Executive Diploma in Advance Business Communication and Certificate for China Business and Trade, Mr Cheung was invited to publish articles including “SARS treated with Traditional Chinese Medicine”, “Tackling Food Safety and Food Traceability” and “Traditional Chinese Medicine as Functional Food” at Scandinavian Life Sciences Journal.

In leveraging extensive Embassies and Consulates’ networks to outreach exclusive resources in APAC, Mr Cheung is recently facilitating market entry for selected tech ventures in landing Japan’s market.
