Chairperson’s Message
主席的話
Tapping into its solid foundation, City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has taken great strides
on various fronts in the past year. Much to our delight, our effort in providing quality education
has also received global recognition.
In the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Ranking 2016, CityU was ranked 7th in Asia and
4th in the world’s top 50 universities under 50 years of age, and is ranked 55th in the QS
World University Rankings. According to QS, CityU’s research has had a global impact. Such
international recognition opens up opportunities for new programmes and more partnerships
with other academic institutes and society. These linkages will go on to enhance our capabilities
in both research and teaching, and strengthen our global network.
Several new developments in the past year are especially encouraging. The National Palace
Museum of Taipei teamed up with CityU to organise two new media exhibitions. This is the
first-ever collaboration with a Hong Kong university, highlighting our leadership in the field of
creative media, and the success of our pro-active industry in recent years. We have also raised
several major donations, including HK$200 million from founder and chief executive of Biel
Crystal (Hong Kong) Manufactory Limited, Dr Yeung Kin-man, JP, and over HK$52 million from
the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
The University’s success is an endorsement to the City University of Hong Kong Foundation
(CityU Foundation)’s efforts in sustaining CityU’s advancement and development, and
connecting the University with the community. I very much look forward to your continual
City University of Hong Kong Foundation 香港城市大學基金
support for the Foundation, and the University’s quest for resources and higher goals.

President and University Distinguished Professor
