Five-day
work week
The Management Board (MB) has decided to follow the basic governing principles
behind the government's proposed implementation of a five-day week for
the Civil Service from 1 July 2006 onwards, and at the same time accommodate
existing practice. This follows a decision by the Heads of Universities
Committee on 9 February to endorse in principle this new arrangement.
According to the MB, academic departments and administrative and academic
units can arrange a five-day week, although essential services and education-related
activities that take place on Saturdays will continue as normal. It is
hoped that this arrangement will balance the need to maintain campus operations
on Saturdays, while at the same time work towards the government's new
initiative.
