Acting heads School of Creative Media: Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing assumed the role of Acting Dean of School of Creative Media (SCM) from 1 August until a new Dean has been identified. The acting appointment is in addition to his substantive position as Chair Professor of Computer Science and concurrent appointment as Vice-President (Student Affairs). Professor Jeffrey Shaw completed his term of office as Dean of School of Creative Media on 31 July 2015. Under Professor Shaw’s deanship, SCM has achieved its long envisioned prominence. Doubling in size within a five-year period, SCM has attracted a significant group of internationally prominent artists and researchers. Upon completion of his deanship, Professor Shaw will continue to actively support the School in his capacity as Chair Professor of Media Art. School of Energy and Environment:

Rebuilding the Tong-an Ships New Media Art Exhibition The exhibition is the first such collaboration between CityU and NPM following a memorandum of understanding signed in October 2014 for the promotion of cultural and art exchanges between Taiwan and Hong Kong. It features installations using a holographic projection, naked-eye 3D, augmented reality, and Kinect sensor technology as an interactive and digital art form to reinterpret the rise and fall of Tong-an ships in Chinese maritime history.

Kudos Two graduates from the Department of Electronic Engineering, Mr Chan Hung-kit and Mr Tung Chung-pui, have won the Champion Award in the Student Project Competition 2014–15 organised by The Institute of Measurement and Control (Hong Kong Section). Their winning project, titled “Smartphone Controlled Quadcopter”, was supervised by Dr Ricky Lau Wing-hong, Associate Professor in EE.
