Town Hall Meeting
The University would like to bring staff and students together at a Town Hall Meeting to talk about recent developments and future strategic directions. This timely assembly comes as CityU continues to enhance its reputation as a leading university in Asia, one that excels in research and professional education. The meeting, entitled "Achieving Excellence through Team Work," will take place on 19 October at 5pm in Wei Hing Theatre. All staff and students are welcome to attend.

Holland Cultural Festival 2010
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences will hold the Holland Cultural Festival 2010 from
11 to 14 October. The event will include seminars, performances, exhibitions and booths on campus. Professor Way Kuo, University President; Professor Gregory B Lee, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Professor Gerard Mols, Rector Magnificus of Maastricht University; and Mr Alexander de Neree tot Babberich, Chairman of the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, will open the event on 12 October.

University Distinguished Lectures
Professor Jean-Christophe Yoccoz, University Distinguished Professor, will present a series of lectures under the title “Small Divisors Problems and KAM Theory” between 20 October and 10 November. Professor Yoccoz is one of the world’s most distinguished mathematicians. He was the 1994 Fields Medallist and is a Professor at the Collège de France, Member of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World and Member of the French Academy of Sciences.

Eminent Speakers Lecture Series
Professor Toshiyuki Kono, Distinguished Professor of Kyushu University, Japan, will give a talk entitled "Security Rights in Intellectual Property in an International Context" on 7 October under the aegis of the School of Law (SLW). His talk will assess the conclusions of a working group of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law working on security rights in intellectual property.

In addition, Mr Han Sang-dae, Chief Prosecutor of Seoul, High Prosecutor's Office, will give a talk entitled "Roles of the Attorneys in the Government" on 28 October as part of the same series.

Conference on Chinese Civil Code
The School of Law is organising a conference titled "Towards a Chinese Civil Code: Historical and Comparative Perspective" from 22 to 23 October. The conference aims to contribute to the understanding of the Chinese civil law tradition from a comparative and historical perspective.

Kunqu exhibition
The Chinese Civilisation Centre of CityU is hosting "The Refined Art of Kunqu – From the Collection of the Kunqu Opera Museum of China" at CityU Gallery until 2 November. The exhibition was opened on 29 September by Ms Zhou Xiao, Director of the Kunqu Opera Museum of China; Dr Louise Ng Chi-wa, Assistant Director (Heritage and Museums), Leisure and Cultural Services Department; Mr Koo Tihua, Founder of Koo Ti Hua Foundation for the Promotion of Kunqu Opera, and Founder and Honorary Chairman of Shanghai Kunqu International Association; and Professor Cheng Pei-kai, Director, Chinese Civilisation Centre.

Kudos
Professor Gregory B Lee, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Chair Professor of Chinese and Transcultural Studies, has been awarded the Chevalier (Knight) in the Order of Academic Palms of the French Government. The Order of Academic Palms is one of the oldest civil distinctions conferred in France and honours people for major contributions to French national education.

Five students from the College of Business—Kenneth Cheung King-hei, Coco Liu Wai-sum, Oliver Suen Kam-hung, Wendy Yeung Wing-ching and Sarah Yuen Chi-ling—took home the Best Report-Writing Award and the Best Presentation Award from the Young Leaders Development Programme 2010 organised by the AIA Foundation. The award lays a solid foundation for the awardees’ journey to becoming future young leaders.
