Pro-Chancellor’s Seminar Series

Professor Hao Quan from the Institute of High Energy Physics, CAS/China Spallation Neutron Source will conduct a seminar titled “Photon/Neutron Source Based Biomedical Research and Applications” on 14 March. Professor Hao will discuss the rapid emergence of neutron scattering and diffraction applications in life science, and discuss the possibility of developing new methods and applications in bio-medicine at the China Spallation Neutron Source and the planned Southern Advanced Photon Source. Distinguished Lecture Series on Global Sustainability

Professor Xie Yu, Director of the Center on Contemporary China at Princeton University and Visiting Chair Professor at the Center for Social Research, Peking University, will hold a lecture titled “Economic Inequality and Demographic Outcomes in China” on 14 March. In this presentation, Professor Xie will document the sharp rise in economic inequality in contemporary China and present results from his research programme on the impact of rising economic inequality on a variety of social and demographic outcomes in China. Law and Business—Distinguished Visiting Professor Lecture

Professor Jesse Fried, William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, will deliver a lecture titled “Delaware Law as a Business: Implications for Incorporations and Corporate Governance” on 10 March. In his talk, Professor Fried will explain how the Delaware Court of Chancery seeks to make its corporate law attractive to those who choose a firm’s domicile, elaborating on its history of balancing the need to deter insider misbehaviour with the need to keep Delaware attractive to insiders. 



New appointments

Ms Loreen Tan Hui-nai has been appointed Associate Vice-President (Human Resources and Digital Transformation), effective 24 February. Previously serving as the Director (Industry) in the President's Office at Nanyang Technological University, Ms Tan has extensive senior management experience and expertise in various administrative functions.



Wooden art exhibition

From 6 to 30 March, the School of Creative Media and Alvdalen will co-present the “Wood and Us” exhibition, featuring upcycled wooden artworks made by 12 CityUHK students. This exhibition hopes to bring together people from various backgrounds to talk face-to-face at an “island” of wooden benches, displaying an array of traditional woodworking techniques. Rich musical heritage of Turkey

The Cultural Exchange Oasis will present an unforgettable spring evening on 28 March, celebrating Turkey’s rich musical heritage, encompassing traditional melodies played on the qanun, a type of large stringed zither, by renowned musician Ahmet Baran and his ensemble.
