New appointments

Professor Wang Jianping, Chair Professor of the Department of Computer Science, has been appointed Dean of College of Computing effective from 1 September 2024.

Professor Alan Wan Tze-Kin, Head and Chair Professor, Department of Management Sciences, has been appointed Associate Provost (Academic Affairs), and Professor Dannii Yeung, Associate Dean (College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences) and Professor, Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences, has been appointed Associate Provost (Student Life), both effective from 1 September 2024.



CityUHK Distinguished Visiting Professor Lecture

Professor Colm Durkan, Professor of Nanoengineering Science, Head of the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, will conduct a lecture titled “Graphene Nanoribbons for Bandgap Engineering” on 10 September. Professor Durkan will discuss the size-dependence of resistivity of graphene nanoribbons, substrate-mediated device architectures and an AFM-based oxidative etching process used to create nanoribbons.



New Faculty Orientation

42 new faculty members joining CityUHK for the 2024/25 academic year attended a half-day orientation session on 21 August. The event commenced with welcoming remarks from Professor Freddy Boey, CityUHK President, followed by an overview of CityUHK. The orientation included sessions on learning and teaching, quality assurance, innovation and enterprise, and research and postgraduate studies, enriched by sharing sessions from current faculty members.



Kudos

Two alumni from the School of Creative Media (2015 cohort) received awards in the Hong Kong/Shanghai Co-operation Open Data Challenge 2024. Mr Ken Chan Shut won the Smart Economy Award for his project titled “BaoKong Retirement Medical Financing”, and Mr Danny Chan Cha won the Smart Environment Award for his project titled “Back-kitchen Food Safety and Security”. The aim of the competition is to facilitate the exchange of data, technology and talent, and to fully unleash the multiplier effect of data elements and promote the synergistic development of smart city and the digital economy between Hong Kong and Shanghai through training and competition.
