Honorary Fellows

Three individuals will be conferred the title of Honorary Fellow at a ceremony in September in recognition of their significant contributions to the development of, and service to, CityUHK and the community. They are: Mr Hing Chao, Chairman of Wah Kwong Maritime Transport, Ms Nancy Chau Sin-wo, a renowned textile entrepreneur, and Ms Grace Lau Mo-sheung, Bronze Medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Chair Professor Tsai Din-ping, in the Department of Electrical Engineering, won the 2024 Frontiers of Science Award from the International Congress of Basic Science, which honours the best papers published in the previous 10 years in 42 sub-areas of mathematics, theoretical physics, and theoretical computer and information sciences. The winning paper, published in Nature Nanotechnology, is titled “A broadband achromatic metalens in the visible”.

Dr Zhou Junxiao, Postdoc in the Department of Electrical Engineering and supervised by Chair Professor Tsai Din-ping, won the Best Poster Award (Silver Prize) at the 8th A3 Metamaterials Forum (A3 META) for his paper “Edge detection and quantitative phase imaging based on the metasurface”. A3 META is a metamaterial symposium, which gathers leading researchers in Asian countries to discuss topics on artificial materials and surfaces in electromagnetic, acoustic and other systems, from DC to optical frequencies and beyond.

Two teams of CityUHK students won prizes in the 10th Hong Kong University Student Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition. Wang Yibo and Wang Xiaosheng, in the Department of Electrical Engineering (EE), supervised by Professor Jiang Chaoqiang from EE, teamed up to win First Prize in the “Energy, Environmental and Chemical Engineering” category with their project “High Efficiency High Power Nanocrystalline Wireless Charging Technology with Intelligent Parameter Identification for Electric Vehicles”.

Another team, comprising Guo Aobo, in the EE, Jason Alexander and Chu Weiqi, in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Kweon Sanseong and Lo Wai-kin, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (MNE), and Que Yue, in the School of Data Science, won the Merit Prize in the same category with their project “AI Assisted Passive Cooling System”. They are supervised by Professor Steven Wang, of the MNE.

PhD students and Postdocs from the Department of Electrical Engineering, comprising Dr Chen Chen, Dr Fan Yuanshuang, Ma Tianlu, Dr Mo Liping, Wang Xiaosheng, Wang Yibo and Dr Zhou Jiayu, were awarded 1st Runner Up in the IET Young Professionals Exhibition & Competition (YPEC) 2024 – Postgraduate Section. The winning project, supervised by Professor Jiang Chaoqiang, is called “Advanced Dynamic Wireless Charging for Automated Guided Vehicles”.
