New appointment

Professor Anderson Shum Ho-cheung has been appointed Vice-President (Research), effective from October 2024. He will also serve as Chair Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering in the Department of Chemistry and Department of Biomedical Engineering. Professor Shum has extensive administrative experience at a senior level and is concurrently Associate Vice-President (Research and Innovation) at The University of Hong Kong. His research interests include emulsions, biomicrofluidics, biomedical engineering and soft matter, and he has been recognised with numerous international awards in his areas of expertise.



CityUHK 30th Anniversary Short Video Competition

A short video competition was launched to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of CityUHK. Themed “Bridges to Innovation and Stories of Connection”, the competition is open to all members of the CityUHK community, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as young talent from secondary schools in Hong Kong and other cities in the Greater Bay Area. The competition aims to foster creativity, collaboration and innovation, and to provide a platform for showcasing the diverse talents in our community. For more information, please visit here.

The poster for the “The Grand Gathering of the Century: Zodiac Heads from the Yuanmingyuan and Important Treasures” exhibition by the Indra and Harry Banga Gallery was selected as one of the “Top 100 Works of the Year” in the 2023 Annual Recommendation Event for Museum and Art Gallery Poster Design in China.

Mr Tung Wing-hong, Technical Officer of the School of Creative Media, received the Award for Young Artist (Media Arts) in the 18th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards. He is an artist specialising in kinetic installation art, whose work has been featured in a number of exhibitions focusing on arts and technologies.

The CityUHK Underwater Robotics Team won third prize in the 2024 MATE ROV Competition, held in the United States. The team members are Cheung Wai-san, Aaron Ip, Tsai Hsin-Chien, Wong Tak-shing, and Yiu Yin-Kwan from the Department of Computer Science; Chan Ho-yan, Guo Yicheng, Kong Pak-hei, Lam Ting-kwan, Sabrina Lau Ka-pik, Leung Wing-yan, Ngai Tung-lam, Poan Tsz-kiu, Sinalubong Des Farenh Ladiao, Sit Yan-tung and Wei Mau-chun, from the Department of Electrical Engineering; Cai Zichen and Ng Chi-oi, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering; Chan Ho-lam, from the Department of Biomedical Engineering; and Fan Ka-wing, and Siu Nok-man from the School of Data Science. This prestigious annual underwater robotics challenge attracted teams from around the world, including Columbia University and Northeastern University in the United States, and Simon Fraser University in Canada.
