Honorary Doctorates
Four individuals will receive honorary doctorates from CityU this year in recognition of their distinctive contributions to learning and the well-being of society. The recipients are Dr Roy Chung Chi-ping, Co-Founder and Non-Executive Director of Techtronic Industries Company Limited; Professor Michael Graetzel, Director of the Laboratory of Photonics and Interfaces at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne; Professor Chad A. Mirkin, Director of the International Institute for Nanotechnology at Northwestern University; and Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University. The Honorary Awards Ceremony is scheduled for 6 October.
AFCR-CityU Innovation Series in Biomedicine
Together with the Asian Fund for Cancer Research, CityU will host a webinar on biomedicine on 12 September with speakers from Harvard Medical School and the National Foundation for Cancer Research, US. Topics include Precision Medicine Applied in Lung Cancer, Genetics in Medicine, Bridging Research from Academia to Cancer Entrepreneurship, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Biomedicine. The facilitator will be Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, CityU's Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise).
2nd Phase of “Zodiac Heads” exhibition
The Indra and Harry Banga Gallery will present 2nd phase of “The Grand Gathering of the Century: Zodiac Heads from the Yuanmingyuan and Important Treasures” exhibition in collaboration with Singapore’s Asian Civilisations Museum from 5 September to 30 November 2023, displaying a complete set of sculptures of the twelve zodiac heads to recreate the exquisite design and ingenuity of the fountain in the Western architecture of the Yuanmingyuan. Kudos
PhD student Yang Ye under the supervision of Professor Chan Wing-shing, Department of Electrical Engineering, won the Best Student Paper Award – Third Prize under the category “Antennas and Microwave Technologies” at Photonics & Electromagnetics Research Symposium (PIERS) 2023 held in Prague. His paper was titled “A Wideband and Compact 3 × 3 Nolen Matrix with Flat Phase Differences”. PIERS is an international forum for reporting progress and recent advances in electromagnetics, photonics and exciting applications.
