介绍
国家贵金属材料工程研究中心（工程中心）香港分中心于2015年11月获得中华人民共和国科学技术部的批准在香港城市大学成立。本中心成立目标是希望通过对贵金属，奈米材料及相关仪器的研究，从而加强工程中心的发展。
贵金属元素包括金、银、铂（白金）、钯、铑、铱、锇、钌。这些元素的原子结构特殊，物理化学性质优异 (如具备高温抗氧化和抗腐蚀性、优良的导电性、高催化活性等)。电性能（优良的导电性和高温热电性能，以及稳定的电阻温度系数等）、高催化活性、强配位能力 ，因此会广泛使用于工业上，与现代高新技术的发展息息相关。
工程中心主力在原有的基础上展开研究，并应用在发展新贵金属材料和替换传统贵金属上。从而满足高科技产业开发及国防建设对先进金属材料的重大需求，为国家经济作出贡献。
使命
- 使本分部成为国家工程技术研究中心在贵金属方面的策略和互补合作伙伴，并成为进行高水平研究，聚集和培训杰出科学家和进行学术交流的重要基地；
- 在开发贵金属和纳米材料的重要基本理论方面进行一系列有系统的研究，以取得国际上有影响力和创造性的成就；
- 在贵金属和纳米材料的设计、制备、表征和装置方面达到国际先进水平；
- 建立一支由国际顶尖科学家和有影响力的年轻专家组成的强大研究团队；
- 在贵金属和纳米材料的基础和应用研究中取得重要成果，以至在技术转让方面取得突破。
