Eileen Yang Zihan, a PhD student in the lab led by Professor Michael Yang, received the HKIOS Best Paper Award at the 8th Hong Kong International Oncology Symposium.
The symposium, with the topic of “Controversies in Precision Oncology”, was taken place at the Charles K. Kao Auditorium in Hong Kong Science Park during 6–7 November 2021. The international event focused on providing a platform for multidisciplinary and international collaborations in research, education and clinical applications of new science and technologies that would potentially transform oncological practice in the coming decade. It also had a proffered paper session for young investigators to present their research findings.
The Best Paper Award was conferred on Eileen for her outstanding presentation at the symposium with an award certificate and a cash prize. Through her research, titled “Lysyl hydroxylase PLOD1 enhances actin network to promote confined migration of hepatocellular carcinoma cells via binding with septin2”, Eileen has investigated a novel phenomenon and mechanism that PLOD1 influenced cell migration especially under confinement. With the grate combination on molecular biology and microfluidic technology, Eileen has developed research and presented her understandings to the event and won the award. More information about the symposium can be found at its website.
Well done and congrats, Zihan!
