Community members of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) gave a team of CityU runners a rousing send-off before the 2016 China Xichang (西昌) International Marathon to be held on 5 November. The CityU team, comprising top staff and alumni runners from Hong Kong and also enthusiastic alumni runners from Chengdu, attended a delightful evening’s event prior to the race. The “CityU Delegation @ China Xichang International Marathon cum Alumni Gathering” was organised in Xichang by the Alumni Relations Office (ARO) on 4 November with CityU Convocation as the event partner. The event intended to cheer on the CityU runners participating in the China Xichang International Marathon to be held the next day and strengthen ties between the University and alumni. This was the fifth time that CityU formed a delegation to join non-local marathon, with the aims of promoting marathon spirit and healthy lifestyle. CityU runners have participated in marathons in Taipei, Gyeongju in South Korea, Xian in mainland China and the Gold Coast in Australia. University representatives at the event included Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations), who led the CityU delegation; Dr Ron Kwok Chi-wai, Dean of Students; Professor Xue Quan, Associate Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering, and Director of Information and Communication Technology Centre; and Ms Alice Chan Yuen-ching, Acting Director of ARO. During the event on 4 November, Professor Lee shared with alumni CityU’s recent accomplishments, including global rankings, and encouraged the CityU runners to do their best in the next day’s race. Another morale-boosting talk was delivered by Dr Kwok and Mr Kason Fok Ka-shing, on behalf of the CityU Marathon Club. The various events in the Mainland exemplify our flourishing alumni networks. Activities that ARO has held in key mainland cities have brought together around 6,000 active alumni there with the University. | CityU community members are pleased to greet and cheer for members of the CityU Delegation at the alumni gathering.
