CityUHK Institute of Digital Medicine
The Institute of Digital Medicine (IDM) is dedicated to advancing healthcare through digital innovation, leveraging CityUHK’s strengths in engineering, data science, and life sciences. Established in response to the growing demand for digital healthcare solutions, IDM serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research and collaboration with leading global institutions and industry partners.
Mission
IDM is committed to driving breakthroughs in digital medicine by collaborating with global institutions and industry partners to enhance healthcare solutions worldwide:
- Engaging in cutting-edge research in digital health technologies, including artificial intelligence, wearable and big data analytics, to support clinicians and improve healthcare quality and patient outcomes.
- Building strategic partnerships with renowned universities and industry innovators to foster knowledge exchange and research collaboration.
- Promoting the commercialisation of research outputs to deliver tangible digital health solutions that address real-world challenges.
Research Clusters
To focus its efforts on key areas of digital medicine, IDM has formed three core research clusters:
- Biomarkers, Diagnostics, and Therapeutics
Led by Professor ZHANG Yong, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Chair Professor of Biomedical Engineering, and Professor YIN Huiyong, Associate Dean (Research) of the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences and Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. This cluster focuses on advancing precision diagnostics and innovative therapeutics to enhance disease prevention, diagnostic precision and treatment outcomes. - Health Data and Models
Led by Professor YAN Hong, Chair Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Professor ZHAO Xiangyu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Data Science. This cluster focuses on developing advanced artificial intelligence and data science-based methodologies and tools for healthcare-related applications. - Wearables, Sensors, and Imaging
Led by Professor Kannie CHAN, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Professor LI Xinyue, Assistant Professor in Department of Data Science. This cluster focuses on developing wearable technologies, advanced sensors, and imaging techniques to enhance patient management, from early detection and preventative care to continuous health monitoring.
