Mr Wong Chun and Mr Lee Kai-chung, alumni of SCM, took home the Artist of the Year (Film) and Award for Young Artist (Visual Arts), respectively. The awards are organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Chun, 2011 BACM graduate, has been grateful to the School for enlightening him and Kai-chung, MFA graduate in 2014, said his training at SCM had helped him to create his artwork and conduct research projects.
Mr Billy Li Kwok-lam (2006 BACM Graduate) and Mr Henri Wong Chi-hang (2002 BACM Graduate) won the Best Art Direction Award and the Best Visual Effects Award, respectively, at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards
The 2006 BACM graduate, Billy Li Kwok-lam, has credited the School with training that contributes to his success in art direction. Henri Wong has worked on the special effects of many movies and won the award for the first time after years of nomination.
Mr Agrawal Harsh (2017 BScCM Graduate) has won Oscar for Best Animated Feature (Mar, 2018)
Mr Agrawal Harsh, the 2017 BScCM graduate who works as Character Shading Technical Director at Pixar Animation Studio, was part of the animation team for the film Coco, which won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature this year.

SCM Alumnus Wong Chun won another Best New Director award at the 36th Hong Kong Film Awards for his first feature film Mad World, following his first major success at the 53rd Taipei Golden Horse Awards last November.

SCM Alumnus Wong Chun made his first feature film Mad World, which was funded by the Film Development Fund, with the help of the other two SCM alumni in the crew including the producer Miss Heiward Mak Hei-yan, graduated in 2006, and the screenwriter Miss Chan Chor-hang, in 2010. The movie brought home the Best New Director award at the 53rd Taipei Golden Horse Awards.
Mr Alan Kwan (2012 BACM Graduate) and Mr Kenny Wong (2011 BACM Graduate) have a two-person show at Pearl Lam Gallery
SCM Alumni Alan Kwan and Kenny Wong, who are now pursuing their studies and careers overseas, have their works featured in a joint exhibition entitled The Interstitial/Interstitial Space at Pearl Lam Gallery Hong Kong. Taking place 22 July–15 September 2016, the exhibition has featured a series of installations, prints, and video games by the artists, who presented a dialogue about the interstitial space between the physical and the virtual to narrate emotion and memory.
Mr Siu Wai Hang (2010 BACM Graduate) won the WYNG Masters Award 2015/16
SCM Alumus Siu Wai-hang won the WYNG Masters Award 2015/16 with the series InsideOutland. His award-winning works were shown at the Exhibition Gallery of the Hong Kong Central Library from 10 -19 April 2016.
Ms Tam Wai-ching (2012 BACM Graduate) won the 2nd First Feature Film Initiative (FFFI)
SCM Alumna Tam Wai-ching has been awarded, in January 2016, a maximum of $3.25 million by the Film Development Fund to produce her film In Your Dream which reveals the dark side of two families and society through depicting a love story between a teacher and a student. SCM's faculty Derek Chiu and Adam Tam will help as producers of this film. Mr Wong Chun, a 2010 graduate, was the winner of the 1st FFFI.
Dr Cédric Maridet (2009 PhD Graduate) and Mr Kenny Wong Chi-chuen (2011 BACM Graduate) brought home the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2014
SCM alumni Dr Cédric Maridet won the Artist of the Year (Media Arts) and Mr Kenny Wong Chi-chuen won the Award for Young Artist (Media Arts). Dr Cédric Maridet received his PhD in Media Arts in 2009 from SCM, where he now teaches, explores the various facets of sound through video, installations, photography, composition and text creation. Mr Wong, who also teaches in SCM, was recognised for his work on exploring visual patterns, perceptual states and sound textures to create new spatial experiences.
Ms Chan Hau-chun (2015 BACM Graduate) received awards at the DC Chinese Film Festival in the US and the Chinese Documentary Festival in Taiwan
Ms Chan Hau-chun received awards at the DC Chinese Film Festival in the US and the Chinese Documentary Festival in Taiwan, respectively for her documentary 32+4. That festival received 190 entries, with 44 of them shortlisted as finalists. It took about half year for Ms Chan to produce the 32-minute-long film. The director wanted to find a missing link in her family life. She had lived separately from her parents throughout her childhood. Filmed in the year of her graduation, the film shows Ms Chan asking her parents many questions about herself and about her relatives.
Mr Vivek Mahbubani (2005 BACM Graduate) was invited to represent Hong Kong at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2015
Mr Vivek Mahbubani, web designer and developer and stand-up comedian, obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Creative Media (BACM) degree in 2005. Mahbubani now runs his own web design and development company and travels the world to perform stand-up comedy. He was invited to represent Hong Kong at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2015 in the inaugural Comedy Zone Asia show. He also recently joined the Commission on Youth in Hong Kong to help promote ideas to help youngsters grow their minds and expand their horizons. In 2013, he was selected to be a Hong Kong Spirit Ambassador and meets with young people at their schools or within their communities to share his experiences and stories.
Mr Lau Ho-chi (2013 BACM Graduate) won the New Face Award in the Art Division at the 17th Japan Media Arts Festival for his interactive installation artwork.
The success of Mr Lau Ho-chi at this renowned international media arts event, now in its 17th year and with a record 4,347 entries from 84 countries and regions around the world, exemplifies CityU's focus on advancing theoretical and practical training in creative media teaching, encouraging students to generate ideas, and nurturing the next generation of professionals for the creative media industry. His award-winning art installation in the festival, titled "Learn to be a Machine | DistantObject#1", was an interactive video artwork for his final-year project. It features a representation of the artist himself and provides a means for the audience to interact with the system. By scrolling a trackball, the audience can manipulate the direction of the artist's "eyes". Blinking and facial expressions are generated randomly.
Mr David Chung and Ms Carmen Lam (2013 BScCM Graduates) won the 2014/15 Technology Start-up Support Scheme for Universities.
Mr David Chung and Ms Carmen Lam, founders of Animae Technologies and Animae Studio, met at School of Creative Media in 2010 as Year 1 students in the Bachelor of Science in Creative Media (BScCM) programme. In 2013, they won HK$100,000 from Cyberport Creative Micro Fund to make a prototype of an augmented reality mobile app. They are also the grant winners of the 2014/15 Technology Start-up Support Scheme for Universities. Their journey began in the SCM classrooms at the Creative Media Centre and they are now at the forefront of their field.

Three members of the School of Creative Media (SCM) were given 2012 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the arts and their significant contributions to the development of local art. The annual Hong Kong Arts Development Awards are highly regarded within the local art scene. The 2012 Award for Best Artist (Media Arts) went to Dr Samson Young Kar-fai, Assistant Professor in the SCM; the Award for Young Artist (Media Arts) went to Mr Choi Sai-ho, a part-time lecturer and SCM alumnus; and the Award for Young Artist (Film) to Mr Lo Chun-yip, also an SCM alumnus.
Five SCM Alumni brought home five awards from the 18th Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards (ifva)
Five graduates of the School of Creative Media (SCM) garnered two Gold Awards, two Silver Awards and one Special Mention Award at the 18th Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards (ifva). Their major achievements exemplify CityU's quality professional education. The immersive virtual reality installation Bad Trip created by Mr Alan Kwan Tsz-wai, a 2012 graduate, and the film 6th March (三月六日) produced by Mr Wong Chun, a 2010 graduate, won the Gold Awards in the Interactive Media Category and the Open Category respectively. In this year's ifva, Atypical Installation (非典型裝置) by Mr Jason Lam Chi-fai, a 2008 graduate and Waiting to Drown (至少在夢裏) by Mr Nick Cheuk Yick-him, a 2012 graduate, won the Silver Awards in the Interactive Media Category and the Open Category respectively. Fishing with Popo (想像外婆)by Miss Lilian Fu Wing-yan, a 2008 graduate, received the Special Mention Award in the Animation Category.

Four graduates of the School of Creative Media (SCM) won six awards at film competitions held in Hong Kong and Taiwan for their outstanding works. Mr Lo Chun-yip (2011 BACM Graduate) received the Contemporary Viewpoint Award and the Caring for Human Rights Award in the 2012 South Taiwan Film Festival for his documentary Days After n Coming(那年春夏.之後). Ms Li Sum-yuet (2012 BACM Graduate) was honoured with the grand prize Fresh Wave Award and the Best Film Award (Open Division) in the Fresh Wave 2012 - International Short Film Festival for her work Flowers with Aphasia (忘語花). Along with Ms Li, Ms Isabella Lam Candice and Ms Tam Wai-ching, graduates of 2011 and 2012 respectively, received the Best Creativity Award (Open Division) and the Best Creativity Award (Student Division) respectively at the same festival.
Mr Cheung Hon-him (2009 BACM Graduate) won the 2010 Award for Young Artist of the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards
Mr Cheung Hon-him was honoured by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) for his special talent of turning light, sound, images, plant specimens, bar codes and even gold fish into an interactive artwork. Mr Cheung received the Award for Young Artist in one of the seven categories set by the ADC. He is an ardent music lover, having started to learn the piano in childhood. A graduate of the associate degree in graphic design from the Community College of CityU, he graduated from SCM's Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Media programme, majoring in new media and interactivity, in 2009.
Miss Li Yin-Fung, Heidi (BACM 2009 graduate) invited to overseas film festival
Heidi is currently working as a web-designer for press. Having received HKD$40,000 funding from Hong Kong Art Development Council (HKADC), she finished her short video Sew (縫) which was shortlisted by The Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival (新浪潮國際短片展). Her work was appreciated by many and later screened in 14th Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy.
Mr Wong Wing-Fat, Morgan (BACM 2007 graduate) listed in “Hong Kong Artists/ 20 Portraits”
Morgan is currently studying his MFA in Sculpture at Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. Emerged as a young talent in the arts world, he is included in the local young artist directory “Hong Kong Artists/ 20 Portraits”.
The book will be launched during the Hong Kong Art Fair this year at Goethe Institute as well as in Art Basel in Switzerland, where he was invited to deliver a talk with a curator from M+. His latest work, which was finished in London, has been selected to display at Moscow Young Art Biennale in Jul 2012. For more of his works.
Miss Tsang Tsui-Shan, Jessey (MFA in Media Design & Technology 2005 graduate) shines in local film festival
Jessey was awarded the Best New Director in the 31st Hong Kong Film Awards 2012. Her previous work Lovers on the Road (戀人路上) was well-received in recognized festivals like Asian Film Symposium in Singapore and South Taiwan Film Festival. Her recent work The Big Blue Lake (大藍湖) does not just bring the glory of “Best New Director” to her but is also supported and appreciated by Hong Kong Art Development Council and Hong Kong Art Centre.
Mr Lam Chi Chun (BACM 2010 graduate) shines in the 4th Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival
Chi Chun, a 2010 graduate, took home three awards at the 4th Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival: the Grand Award, the Best Animation and Best Story awards with his film The Launch, which was the final-year project for his Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Media. The project took about ten months to complete, from developing the story and drawing the actual characters to sequencing the scenes.
In his film, he emphasises the importance of cherishing our surroundings. The film depicts how one day a boy removes a component from his loyal robot dog in order to help repair a space rocket. But his plan goes terribly wrong because he can’t get his robot dog or the rocket to move ever again.
Miss Mak Hei Yan (BACM 2006 graduate)
Mak was introduced to film veteran Mr Eric Tsang (曾志偉) and made her debut as a scriptwriter for Men Suddenly in Black 2 (大丈夫 II) prior to her graduation.
In April 2008, her first movie Winds of September (Hong Kong Chapter) : High Noon (九降風 (香港篇)之烈日當空) both scripted and directed by her, was premiered at the 32nd Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF), and was set for commercial release in November 2008. In 2010, her second movie Ex (前度) (starring: Gillian Chung and William Chan) has been selected as the closing film in the 34th HKIFF. Mak was also a scriptwriter for another commercial film Love in a Puff (志明與春嬌) (starring: Miriam Yeung and Shawn Yue).
