Record number of alumni attend mainland reunion dinner
A record number of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) alumni from mainland China joined a reunion dinner in Shanghai on 2 December.
Over 200 participants, including guests and alumni mostly from Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai and Shenzhen, as well as CityU representatives, participated in the “CityU Alumni Dinner @ Shanghai”, setting a record for alumni events on the mainland.
The dinner was organised by the Alumni Relations Office (ARO) to further consolidate the country-wide mainland alumni network. The event partners were CityU Convocation and the CityU Shanghai Alumni Chapter, with support from the CityU Beijing Alumni Association and the CityU Shenzhen Alumni Chapter.
In his welcome speech at the dinner, Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, emphasised the importance of the quest for knowledge, highlighted CityU’s outstanding achievements, and thanked the alumni for their support.
Mr Andrew Fan Ka-fai, Council member and CityU alumnus, said concerted alumni efforts would lift the University to new heights.
CityU representatives at the dinner included Dr Shan Guangcun, a member of the Court and the Executive Committee of the CityU Beijing Alumni Association; Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations); Professor Robert Li Kwok-yiu and Professor Lu Yayan, Associate Deans in the College of Science and Engineering; Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations); and Miss Antonia Yeung Yu-hung, Director of ARO.
Participants at the dinner also witnessed the inauguration of the 2nd Executive Committee of the CityU Shanghai Alumni Chapter. Committee members pledged to strengthen the alumni networks and solicit support for the development of their alma mater.
CityU has a global alumni community of over 150,000 members, over 8,000 of whom reside on the mainland.
Meanwhile, alumni leaders in Chengdu are planning to establish CityU Chengdu Alumni Chapter in April 2018 and are looking forward to achieving synergy with other alumni chapters in the future.
