What is Dragon Boat Festival?

This year Dragon Boat Festival falls on 10 June (lunar calendar 5 May). Dragon Boat Festival is also called “Tuen Ng” in Cantonese and “Duanwu” in Mandarin. The festival is celebrated to commemorate the death of Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet, and minister known for his patriotism and contributions to classical poetry. One of the ways to celebrate the festival is Dragon Boat Racing. It is originated from the legend that people paddling out on boats to seek the body of Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in a River.
