A multidisciplinary research team with synergetic strengths, consisting of members from mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, electronic engineering, computer science, mathematics, telecommunication, and media studies, propose to create a new cross-disciplinary research centre -
"Centre for Robotics and Automation" at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), with the goal to develop and disseminate new knowledge, systems, methods, and technology to integrate cyber-infrastructure with engineering systems that will enable new technological developments in such areas such as manufacturing automation, services, and drug discovery, as well as to promote new approaches to learning and training.
The development in engineering such as Internet technology, micro/nano technology, and biomedical technology has posed new challenges that require experts to work together over long distance and in the environment much smaller than what we are used to be. The cyber-enabled approaches will provide solutions to meet these challenges.
To discover new knowledge and technology in cyber-enabled engineering, which will support the economic development and well-being of the citizens of Hong Kong, the PRD Region, China, and other parts of the world, in the coming decades. To provide students at the City University of Hong Kong with an outstanding and diversified academic and research experience on information technology, manufacturing automation, biomedicine, and nanotechnology, and help the University in educating the future work force in meeting the on-coming technical challenges and advancements of the world.
