1. Hong Kong PhD Fellowship
Outstanding applicants are encouraged to apply for thehonorable "Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme". They should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities. The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (~US$2,564) and conference and research related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (~US$1,282) per year for the awardees for a maximum period of three years.
Entrance Requirements:
Prospective candidates would normally have attained at least a BSc (Hons) Class 2A degree, or equivalent, from a recognized university. Candidates should also possess an acceptable level of competency in the English language; good TOEFL and GRE scores are required.
• Hold a higher degree by research OR
• Hold a taught Master's degree OR
• Hold a Bachelor's degree with first class honors from a recognised university Extra marks for foreigner applicants.
English Proficiency Requirements:
If both teaching media of both your undergraduate and postgraduate courses are English (must provide certificates), you don't need English proficiency test.
If not:
• Score results of TOEFL (≥ 79) or IELTS (≥6.5) in their PhD applications

2. Standard CityU PhD studentship
English Proficiency Requirements of College of Science and Engineering:
---a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based); or
---a minimum overall band score of 6.5 in IELTS; or
---a score of 490 in the Chinese mainland’s College English Test Band 6; or
---other test scores that may be regarded as equivalent to TOEFL 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based).
(Please note that individual Departments in the College may adopt a higher standard.)
