Abstract
Since the first syntheses of bulk glassy alloys for Mg- and La-based systems in 1989 and the subsequent findings of Zr-based bulk glassy alloy systems in 1990, an extremely large number of studies have been carried out with the aims of searching for new bulk glassy alloy systems, clarifying fundamental properties and finding novel application fields. This lecture aims to introduce the development history of bulk glassy alloys, their alloy systems and alloy components, structure, atomic configurations, glass-forming ability, production techniques and processes, fundamental properties, thermal stability, deformation and fracture behavior, viscous flow deformation, secondary working process and applications, in conjunction with bulk glassy alloys containing nanocrystals, dendritic crystals and nanoquasicrystals. Besides, this lecture aims to investigate the future prospects of bulk glassy alloys as novel useful materials which will be able to contribute to the developments of low-carbon and sustainable societies.
