France - Hong Kong
Distinguished Lecture Series

Background

The France-Hong Kong Distinguished Lectures are a series of high-profile lectures organised by CityU under the auspices of the French Academy of Sciences, the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, and The Légion d’Honneur Club Hong Kong Chapter.

The Series aims to promote the French Academy of Sciences and more generally the French scientific community among the scientific community in Hong Kong. The first lecture was held in 2005, and at least one lecture is held each year. Each lecture focuses on a topic of contemporary interest that impacts society and is of interest to the general public. All the lectures are held at City University of Hong Kong.

Message from the President

Since its inception in 2005, the France-Hong Kong Distinguished Lecture Series has created strong links between City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and the scientific community in France, reflecting our commitment to international partnerships. This series underscores CityUHK’s commitment to advancing scientific research and fosters critical discussions on fundamental scientific issues facing the world today.

Over the years, the Lecture Series has welcomed more than 20 world-reowned French scientists to CityUHK, thus promoting intellectual exploration and research that has a scientific, technological or social impact. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to HKIAS Senior Fellow Professor Philippe Ciarlet, who has organized this series since 2005. My deep thanks also go to the French Academy of Sciences, the Collège de France, the Hong Kong Chapter of the Légion d’Honneur Club, and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau for their permanent support of this series. I eagerly anticipate developing this partnership further for global academic exchange.
