The City University of Hong Kong Press has collaborated with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) has partnered with in publishing the third edition of Personal Data (Privacy) Law in Hong Kong – A Practical Guide on Compliance.

The new book is co-edited by Ms. Ada CHUNG Lai-ling, the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, and Professor Zhu Guobin from the School of Law at City University of Hong Kong. A book launch event took place on September 9, featuring Professor Ian Grenville CROSS, GBS, SC, the Former Director of Public Prosecutions, as a guest speaker.

    

The new book offers a detailed overview and interpretations of the regulations and principles of data protection under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO), utilizing case studies and everyday scenarios for clarification. It also covers the regulatory and enforcement efforts of the PCPD concerning the PDPO. Three fresh chapters in this latest edition delve into the analysis of the new anti-doxxing provisions, cross-border transfers of personal data involving Hong Kong, and the personal information protection regulations in the Mainland. Additionally, the book discusses recent decisions from the Administrative Appeals Board and the Court, investigation findings and materials released by the PCPD, and conducts a comparative assessment of Hong Kong's personal data protection laws against those of the Mainland and the European Union.

The book seeks to enrich the comprehension of legal practitioners, students, and individuals interested in privacy law regarding Hong Kong's privacy legislation while serving as a dependable reference tool for addressing the challenges presented by this rapidly evolving domain.
