Prior to joining the City University of Hong Kong at the end of July 2024, Zudi Lu was working with the University of Southampton as a Professor/Chair in Statistics from late 2013 to July 2024 in the UK. He had also worked at international and domestic academic institutions with the University of Adelaide (2009-2013) and Curtin University (2006-2009) in Australia, the London School of Economics (2003-2006) in the UK, the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science (1997-2003) in Beijing, China, and the Universite Catholique de Louvain (1996-1997) in Belgium after receiving his PhD degree in Statistics in 1996 from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (1993-1996), and worked with the Southeast University (1991-1993) in Nanjing, China, after obtaining his MSc degree in Statistics in 1991 also from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (1988-1991). He received his BSc degree in Mathematics from Zhejiang Normal University in 1988. His research interests include: Statistical inference & computation for dynamic modeling with statistical (deep) learning, (causal) reasoning and prediction of nonlinear spatial/temporal (tensor) big data; Nonlinear time series modeling and financial statistics / econometrics; Medical/health Statistics; Applied temporal/spatial modeling for risk analysis; Non-parametric/semi-parametric and machine learning methods.
Zudi was a recipient of the Australian Research Council Future Fellowship Award as an Australian Future Fellow (the Australian Distinguished Young Scientist Fund, with Zudi the first winner of this prestigious award in the School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Adelaide) in its 2010 round and the Marie Curie Actions (People) Career Integration Grant Award as a Marie Curie Fellow from the European Commission in 2014. He was also a joint recipient of a Key Project fund award from the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2000. He is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute. He is currently an Associate Editor with the international journals, "Journal of Time Series Analysis" (Wiley), "Environmental Modeling and Assessment" (Springer) and "Research in Mathematics" (Taylor) (Senior Editor responsible for the statistical section) and as a foreign editorial board member for the Chinese journal "Systems Engineering - Theory & Practice”.
