Dr. Wisal Ahmed is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), specializing in Structural Engineering with a focus on sustainable, low-carbon concrete materials. He completed his Ph.D. Degree in Civil Engineering from the same University in August 2023. He received a Master of Science in Structural Engineering Degree from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad, Pakistan in 2017. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar in 2015. Before joining CityUHK, he worked as a full-time lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, Military College of Engineering (MCE), NUST, Pakistan.
Dr. Ahmed's areas of expertise are sustainable and green concrete materials, recycled concrete, supplementary cementitious materials, fiber-reinforced concrete, and waste valorization. His current research area is focused on developing low-carbon concrete by using recycled aggregate, waste glass, and sustainable pozzolan materials. Throughout his academic and research career, Dr. Ahmed has been actively involved and dedicated to advancing the field of sustainable & green construction. His research majorly aims at reducing the construction waste, conserving natural resources, and minimizing the significant environmental impact of concrete, contributing to net-zero 2050 goals.
Dr. Ahmed’s PhD thesis titled “Production of Sustainable Fiber Reinforced Concrete via Composite Utilization of Pozzolana Slurry Treated Recycled Aggregate and Basalt Fiber” was honored with the Outstanding Research Thesis Award 2023 by CityUHK. He has been awarded with the Outstanding Academic Performance Award twice during his PhD studies. He was nominated by CityUHK to participate in the 10th edition of the Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS), held in Singapore on 17 – 21 January 2022. Dr. Ahmed has published several research articles including research papers, review papers, and book chapters in top ranked journals of his field. He also serves as a journal reviewer for various Q1 ranked journals including Journal of Cleaner Production, Construction and Building Materials, Journal of Building Engineering, Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, Structures, etc. Dr. Ahmed believes in cross-disciplinary collaborations and is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and leadership.
