Hongyi Jiang earned a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from Johns Hopkins University, a master’s degree in Mathematics from Wake Forest University, and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Sichuan University. From 2021 to 2024, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell University. In October 2024, he joined the Department of Systems Engineering at City University of Hong Kong as an assistant professor.
His research interests focus on the theoretical foundations of mixed-integer programming and the development of discrete optimization algorithms that are both theoretically solid and practically efficient for solving real-world challenges across various domains.
PhD Openings
- I am currently recruiting highly motivated Ph.D. students to join our group at CityU HK. Our research focuses on the theoretical foundations of mixed-integer programming, its interactions with machine learning, and the development of algorithms that are both theoretically robust and practically efficient for solving real-world challenges across various domains. Students with backgrounds in mathematics, computer science, operations research, transportation science, industrial engineering, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to candidates with mature knowledge in discrete optimization or mixed-integer programming, strong mathematical backgrounds, and/or coding skills in algorithm development.
If interested, please send your CV (including GPA and average scores), transcript, and any highlighted publications to me at hj348@cornell.edu. Please use the subject line "Ph.D. Application – [Your Name]". Exceptional candidates are also encouraged to apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS).
The application deadline is December 1, 2024.
