XIONG Wenbo (Abel) is currently a Part-time Research Assistant at City University of Hong Kong, doing research mainly in International Economic Law, International Investment Law, International Water Law, Public International Law, and Constitutional Law of the PRC. Besides, he also currently holds a PhD offer (in Public International Law) of Macau University of Science and Technology.

Before his journey at CityUHK, he obtained an LLB in Chinese Economic Law from Hubei University of Economics (HBUE), Wuhan, China, where he also minored in English Translation and Interpretation. He later earned an LLM in Common Law from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).With nearly eight years of academic and research experience across both civil law and common law systems, he brings a deep understanding of diverse legal traditions.

His research interests include, but are not limited to, Aviation Law, and Constitutional Law of the People's Republic of China (including Hong Kong Basic Law). Besides, he is also interested in and participate in interdisciplinary study and research (such as International Relations, Chinese Politics and Central-local Relationship etc.) from time to time.

Previous Experience

  • Sep 2023 - Nov 2023, Part-time Technical Assistant, CityU School of Law. Mainly in charge of organizing an economic experiment, recruiting participants, collecting and analyzing information.
  • Mar 2023 - Jun 2023, Part-time Research Assistant, CityU School of Law. At the Research Centre for Chinese and Comparative Law. Mainly conduct research (especially data collection, coding, and analysis) in the fields of Chinese Company Law, Competition Law, Law & Economics.
  • May 2020 - Apr 2021, Paralegal, Shanghai Daji Law Firm. Lawyer’s assistant. Mainly doing contract reviews, meeting with clients, and some E-C translations for legal documents.
  • Feb 2020 - Aug 2020, Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, Hubei University of Economics. Teaching assistant for LLB students, in the Company Law and Public International Law courses. The main task is to collect online resources, prepare course materials, and mark students’ papers.
  • Apr 2019 - Sep 2020, Student Research Assistant, Hubei University of Economics. Part-time research assistant in the field of company law as well as environmental law. Mainly on corporate compliance and governance; Environmental policy of the US government.
