Chan Sui Hung Best Student Awards
Sir Gordon and Lady Ivy Wu Hall (Hall 9)
Miss SHI Qiuyu
First of all, I’d like to start my sharing with a sincere thanks for all the efforts devoted by SRO, hall masters and our responsible tutors. Thanks to their meticulous planning and patient organization, we can have an opportunity to enjoy such a meaningful and interesting residential life. I must admit that, by attending all kinds of activities held by SRO, not only my extracurricular life, but also in terms of my cultural recognition, have been expanded a lot.
Here, I want to share some special events that impressed me the most.
Mid-Autumn Festival
A celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival will be held annually in Student Residence. During this wonderful event, fantastic performers will show up including residents from different halls and countries, as well as CityU Chinese Orchestra. Although the styles are quite different, the cheerful sentiment contained in performances is the same. As a long-standing tradition, a lion dancing team will also be invited to the celebration. With the traditional accompanying music, performers act as a vivacious lion to the audience. Besides performances on the stage, stalls hosted by different halls and International Societies are also fantastic. Stalls of the International Societies also provide delicious snacks which added joy to this wonderful celebration.
Basketball Competition
There are several sports events held by SRO. From my point of view, the most exciting one is Basketball Competition! I went through the selection process and successfully became an official member of HALL 9’s women basketball team. Under the guidance of our sports tutor, our team went training together on a regular basis. Fortunately, with the efforts devoted by the whole team, we reached the knockout stage with a clean victory during the group stage. And we finally won the third-place through the fierce knockout competition.
Poon Choi Night
It is a classic tradition in Hong Kong to celebrate the Chinese New Year eating Poon Choi as a family reunion dinner. In order to let our residents experience the joyous atmosphere of the grand Spring Festival, Hall 9 Residence Association organized a Poon Choi feast in February.
During this wonderful feast, a huge pot filled with many types of food was provided for each group of residents. Besides enjoying Poon Choi with friends, there were also a number of performances and lucky draw sessions giving opportunities to residents to win fantastic prizes! We all enjoyed the dancing performance from Holic.dancehk and the Chinese lute performance from the Chinese orchestra of CityU. There were some games with prizes to win so everyone was immersed in a relaxing mood.
Having Poon Choi feast was indeed a memorable moment for us to get together and look ahead for the coming year with our best wishes.
