Yip Yuen Yuk Hing Hall (Hall 8) and
Jockey Club House Active Resident Award
Miss YANG Zekun
I am very honored to receive the Jockey Club House Active Resident Award. My experience at JCH is wonderful. As a Ph.D. student, it is very easy for you to stay in office or your room all day to do research. The joyful and abundant activities held by Hall 8 and JCH give research students opportunities to meet new friends with different backgrounds and know Hong Kong better. I am happy that I could continue to stay in JCH this year, and I will continue to contribute to the hall community.
Among all the activities, the two most impressive ones for me are the Welcome Party and the Christmas Party. For the Welcome Party, I served as a volunteer in both the rehearsal of the party and the Welcome Party on Sept. 9th, 2018. I helped with the rehearsal, and I was in charge of audio and video display during the party. Sitting next to the stage, it is easy for me to watch both the performance and the reaction of the audiences. It was a cheerful party and everybody was warmly welcomed by the dancing and singing performances as well as the humorous instructions given by the residence masters.
Furthermore, as a performer, I played the ocarina at the Christmas Party on Dec 16th, 2018. The song I played was called “A Thousand Years Elegance”. I made a video of traditional Chinese paintings as the background of my performance, and I was dressed in traditional Chinese clothing. My performance contributed significantly to the party and to the hall community. Being one of the four performers, my performance added amusement and diversity to the party and offered an opportunity for non-Chinese students to engage and understand Chinese culture better. I also personally enjoyed the party very much by making Christmas cards and playing various games.
All in all, I enjoyed my hall experience by both participating in activities and helping with activities. Hall activities are a marvelous chance for students to understand each other better and promote the unity of our hall community.
