Yip Yuen Yuk Hing Hall (Hall 8) and
Jockey Club House Active Resident Award
Mr. Ke Xiaobo, Bob
Hi! My name is Ke Xiaobo and you can call me Bob. Currently, I am a Year-2 PhD student in the School of Creative Media under supervision of Prof. Christian Wagner. It is my great pleasure to share my experience of hall life with you. Here are some suggestions and thoughts.
Start the wonderful hall life
On the first day of my PhD study, I finished the check-in procedure and started my PhD life in Yip Yuen Yuk Hing Hall (Hall 8). The first hall activity I attend is the hall welcome party. By taking advantage of this party, I made friends with many hallmates and understood the basic rules and tips of living in the hall. After then, I gradually adapted myself to the hall context and got along well with hallmates who are from worldwide. Thus, I highly recommend the hall newcomers to join the welcome party as this activity can help you learn about the situation of the halls where you live.
Your contribution matters
The goal of Hall 8 is to provide not only a living environment but also a social environment where our life can be enriched, and our vision can be broadened. To this end, we are able to frequently enjoy the various activities organized and offered by our hall. In my point of view, the hall is also a community or a simple society. Thus, I also keep considering what I can do to contribute to our hall and help this community become better. I like playing table tennis and I also usually attend the table tennis activities provided by our hall. Besides, to contribute to my hall, I also serve as a key player in our hall’s table tennis team for the PEK competition. With the efforts of our team, we finally won the first runner-up which is the best achievement in these several years. This experience makes me feel a strong sense of belonging to Hall 8, and also helps me contribute back to our hall by doing what I can do.
Let the memory of hall life stay
Hall life is an important part of my study experience in CityU. When staying in Hall 8, I joined various hall activities in addition to the table tennis program. Joining these activities consists of the memory of my hall life. Besides, the ARA scholarship is also a sort of significant recognition and meaningful memory of my enjoyable hall life because this is my first time to get the scholarship in CityU. Even though I am not living in student residence now, I still try to join the hall activities and gather with my friends known at the hall. I will value the memory of my hall life a lot as this fruitful memory helps me appreciate the beauty of my PhD journey in CityU.
