Miss JANTHANIT Ratchanee, Peggy

BBA in Management, Year 4

JANTHANIT Ratchanee, Peggy

As a fourth year student returning to Hall 11, I truly feel like this is my second home. I stayed in Hall 11 since my first year so I got the opportunity to form meaningful relationships with my floor tutors, hall mates, Residence Master, and even the security guards. I would say that living in the Student Residence has pushed me out of my comfort zone to join different types of hall activities and competitions, which has helped me grow exponentially and become an overall well-rounded individual.

One of the most important things in hall life is to get to more people from different backgrounds and to branch out to make new friends. I always try my best to make friends with everyone living in Hall 11 and to share my experience and culture with my hall mates. For the past two years, I’ve organised many student initiated events (SIE) to introduce different activities and allow the residents to get to know each other. As a Thai student, I enjoy sharing the food and teaching some basic Thai phrases to the participants of these events so that they can learn more about Thailand and my hometown. It’s a great way to raise cultural awareness and foster understanding among students from different countries.

In addition to that, I also regularly help out at SRO events by setting up the Thai booth with food and games. I was the helper at the booth in the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2017 and 2018.

Furthermore, I also enjoy playing sports and regularly participate in PEK competitions including Aquatics, Basketball, and Badminton. I also attended the cheering sessions to show support for my friends and hallmates. It’s great to see Hall 11 residents come together and enjoy watching the competition while cheering along our friends.

In 2018, I performed “Yellow by Coldplay” alongside my friends in Hall 11. I was reluctant to join at first, but after encouragement from my peers I decided there is always a first time for everything and decided to participate. I want to encourage all hall residents to try join as many events as possible – you will definitely enjoy it and look back with fond memories!

I also participated in all the events organised by the Residents’ Association of Hall 11. One of my personal favourites is the Poon Choi Feast. In 2018, I joined as the MC and helper while in 2019 I was a regular participant. I got to join in the games and enjoyed the food, which was a very unique local experience that everyone should try at least once!

For other Hall activities, I was the MC for various different events such as the Welcoming Party and Christmas Ball. This allowed me to hone and develop my public speaking skills and build confidence, which I believe are important to my personal growth.

Overall, I would say life at the Student Residence is a valuable part of my University life and would not be able to get this experience anywhere else! Time flies so my tip is to enjoy every moment while you can and don’t be afraid to try something new once in a while.
