Definition of Terms

  1. Commuting Time
    The time consumed for a single trip from your home to the University, by the most frequently used transportation and route. Occasional traffic congestion is not included.

  2. Home Size (Conversion Guide: 1 square metre = 10.76 square feet)
    The Home Size should be described and defined as "Saleable Area" (實用面積). The definition of "saleable area" includes only the area of the unit, the balcony and the utility platform, if any. Other areas of the unit, such as bay windows, should be separately listed out item by item but should not be included as part of the "saleable area". (The Transport and Housing Bureau)

    Applicant can obtain the information from the Housing Authority / Housing Society or other government bodies.

    Internal floor area can be used if saleable area is not available (only applicable for the public rental flats in Hong Kong).

  3. Number of household members living together
    The numbers of persons, including the applicant, who live together and make common provision for essentials for living AND stay overnight in the flat. These persons need not be related.
    If any family member who works as baby-sitter or care-taker, whose client does not stay overnight in the flat, the client should not be included. Pet (eg. dogs / cats) are not included.

  4. Leadership Qualities
    Recognized leadership positions are listed in the pull-down menu of the application form. Applicants can choose one leadership position held in the past and current year (i.e. the most recent two academic years), which attains the highest scores. An academic year is defined to commence in September and end in 30 June of the following year.
    Vice leadership positions e.g. Vice-President / Vice Head Prefect and etc., will be regarded as a formal leader of a group in general, i.e. President / Head Prefect.

  5. Potential Contribution* to Residence Life

      5.1 Academic Merits
      Applicants have to obtain Academic Scholarships or Academic Prizes awarded by CityU or external organization. The definition of an academic year applies.

      5.2 Special Achievements
      Applicants have to attain Achievements or Awards in Inter-varsity Competitions in the areas of sports, music or arts. The definition of an academic year applies.

      5.3 International or Non-local Exchange Experience and International Internship
      Applicants have to specify the completion of exchange or international internship program before 30 June of the year of the application to the Student Residence.

      5.4 Services to Community Applicants
      Applicants have to complete 10 hours of community service in a registered non-governmental organization.

Photo of the award / medal is NOT accepted. No mark will be given if you put in wrong categories.
