(Bedroom B)* Air-conditioning, laundry and bedding fees are not included in the monthly charges. The hall lodging fees are subject to annual review and revision. If all applications of all eligible groups have been processed, available residence places will be offered to those students from full-time research degree students in non-UGC-funded programmes; full-time research degree students who have applied for extension of study (out-timers), full-time non-local postgraduate students and lastly research staff on an ad hoc basis. Offer of residence places will be on short-term basis. A surcharge of 25% will be levied on “out-time” students and students of non-UGC-funded programmes. An additional 35% will be levied for those who switch to i) part-time status while holding full-time employment with the university and; ii) research staff. All cases will be subject to room availability on a case by case basis.

Upon the announcement of application result, successful applicants are required to accept the hall offers by paying a non-refundable and non-transferable confirmation fee by the deadline.

Research Degree Students (Rpg)
(a) Hall lodging fees will be charged from the first day of the residence period even if you check-in late, as the bedplace have been reserved for residents from the first day of the residence period. The rooms have to be left vacant and cannot be allocated to other students. Therefore, the applicants should be responsible for paying hall lodging fees.
(b)
Hall lodging fees are collected on a monthly basis by debiting from the student’s personal bank account except for the hall lodging fees of August 2024. It will be calculated at a daily rate.
(c)
SGS Entrance Scholarship recipients are liable to pay the hall lodging fees for the period of stay which is NOT covered by the Scholarship (i.e., 29 - 31 August 2024).
(d)
The last month’s hall lodging fee will be calculated as follows:
- Residents have to pay one-half of the monthly hall lodging fees if they check out at any time on or before 12 noon on the 16th day of the month,
- Otherwise residents shall pay a full month's hall lodging fee if they check out at any time after 12 noon on the 16th day of the month.
Failing in settling hall lodging fees on time may result in forfeiting bedplace. All charges paid are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
Master's (Taught Postgraduate) Students
(e) Hall lodging fees are collected on a semester basis. Hall lodging fees of residential year 2024/25 are payable in two instalments to cover the whole residential period. 1st instalment and 2nd instalment will be charged in September and January respectively.
Failing in settling hall lodging fees on time may result in forfeiting bedplace. All charges paid are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
- Early Withdrawal
Once research residents intend to check out earlier than the last date of stay originally approved by Student Residence Office (normal residential year end by 12noon,16 August every year), they are required to submit written notification to Student Residence Office at least one month before their intended last date of stay.
After receiving the email written request, Student Residence Office will vet and formally approve the last day of stay as well as advise the last month of hall lodging fees for early withdrawal.
Further to Hall Fees Collection Part iv Point d, only upon Student Residence Office’s formal approval, the last month of hall lodging fee for early withdrawal is charged/based on the approved last day of stay, i.e. for check-out before/on the 16th day of month by noon, the resident is liable to pay one-half of the monthly hall lodging fee, while for check-out after the 16th day of the month, the full month of the hall lodging fees shall be charged.

Residents are required to inform the Student Residence Office and move out of the hall upon any one of the following conditions:
- change of funding source
- completion of the normal period
- completion of study
- exchange programmes
- expiry of the assigned period
- leave of absence
- interruption of study
- termination of study`
- withdrawal of study
- suspension of study
- any cases that result in inactive/part-time student status
- visa expired
- Administrative and Penalty Charges
Administrative Charge
Administrative charge ($300) will be charged separately for those special requests approved by Student Residence Office.Damage to Hostel and Properties
Compensation to the University for damage caused to the Student Residence and properties will be based on assessment by the Director of Student Residence Office in consultation with the Directors of Facilities Management and Finance Office, having regards to the cost of properties repaired and replaced as appropriate.Penalty Charges for Late Check-Out and Improper Check-out
Penalty charges will be levied when:
(i) Residents fail to check out their rooms upon the completion of the assigned period.
(ii) Residents who fail to clean up their rooms properly.
(iii) Residents who fail to restore the furniture upon check-out. The exact penalty charges will be determined by the Student Residence Office in consultation with Finance Office.Penalty charges on:

Improper Check-out:
