These regulations are designed to create a safe, healthy, and conducive living environment for all residents, promoting respect for others and personal responsibility. It is imperative for all residents to understand and adhere to these rules to ensure a positive living experience in the halls. Violations of these rules may result in penalties, up to and including eviction.

Hall Rules of Hall 16
General Conduct
- Use of Identity Card
- Lending or borrowing of student identity card and/or resident card is strictly prohibited.
- Personal Items
- Residents are responsible for the safekeeping of their personal valuable items. The Hall Management Team (HMT) shall not be responsible for any loss of or damage to any articles or things brought into the Hall by the residents.
- Noise
- Making excessive noise or disturbing residents is prohibited, including but not limited to quiet hours (from 11:00pm to 7:00am) and/or revision and examination weeks.
- Room Change
- Unapproved change or sharing of room occupancy is prohibited.
- Hall Activities
- Only activities approved by the HMT will be regarded as Official Hall Activities (OHAs). OHAs are funded by the Hall budget and are covered by the University insurance. OHAs are entitled to Hall resources (e.g. Hall facilities, social media platform, HMT manpower, etc.) upon approval of the Residence Master (RM) and/or HMT.
- Hall Publications/ Communication/ Social Media
- Prior approval by the RM and/or HMT is required for any posting on Hall premises.
- All Hall/SRO promotions, including posters and announcements, must bear either the RM or SRO stamp. All other postings without RM/SRO stamp will be considered as unauthorized and removed from the Hall immediately without notice.
- Any potential violations, including photos and messages (using Hall/donor’s name) posted on unofficial/private social media accounts for the purpose of promoting/encouraging/organizing unauthorized activities, may be subject to disciplinary action.
- Cooking and Utensils
- Cooking is only allowed in common rooms located on each floor.
- After using the facilities, residents must clean up and put any leftover food in the rubbish bins.
- No food residue should be left in the sinks or on the counter tops.
- Residents must make the common room suitable for the next user by using an air refresher after cooking food with any strong smell.
- Common Rooms
- Residents should keep all Hall facilities, furniture and equipment in good order.
- Improperly stored food and items with food residue, such as dirty dishes that are left in common areas unattended or food left in an open container inside the refrigerator overnight, will be subject to disposal as garbage by the HMT without further notice.
- This is a very important sanitary measure aimed at preventing pest infestation and contamination. If you notice dirty dishes or items with food smears or open food packages, please bring this to the attention of your Residence Tutors (RTs) or the RM.
- Residents are prohibited from taking away commonly used utensils to other floors or personal rooms without prior notice to the RTs.
- Inform RTs about any damage to the Hall facilities and items.
- Shared Bathroom
- Residents are not allowed to invite members of the opposite sex to use the gendered shared bathrooms.
- Residents are required to keep the bathrooms neat and tidy for the next user. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action.
- Fire
- Open flames and the use or storage of inflammable substances are prohibited.
- Visitor Policy
- Visiting hours are from 8:00am to 11:00pm.
- Visitors are not allowed to enter or remain within the Hall areas beyond the visiting hours.
- Visitors are required to present their student identity card to the G/F security upon entry and to complete the registration process. Residents are fully responsible for the conduct of their visitors and have the duty to make visitors aware of the rules and regulations. Residents will be held accountable for any misconduct committed by their visitors.
Prohibitions
- Smoking & Consumption of Illegal Drugs
- Smoking and drugs are strictly prohibited in all areas of the Hall (including the roof and staircases). The violation of the rule will lead to disciplinary actions and/or the involvement of the law enforcement agencies.
- Drinking
- Residents should drink responsibly. Excessive drinking leading to misbehaviour or disturbance to others is forbidden.
- Gambling and Playing Mahjong
- Playing mahjong is prohibited in all Hall areas and at all times, except in common rooms on typical floors between 10:00am and 10:00pm. However, the enjoyment of mahjong playing may be curtailed upon finding it a disturbance and/or nuisance to other residents.
- Stealing and Theft
- Theft is a criminal offence. Stealing, including but not limited to any food and drinks in the refrigerators and any properties in the common rooms, will lead to disciplinary actions and/or the involvement of law enforcement agencies.
- Pets
- Pets are NOT allowed in the Hall.
- Floor Representatives
- The residents of each floor should elect their own representative(s). If the residents are unable to elect the floor representative(s), the RT of that floor may appoint them.
- Rights of Hall Authorities
- The HMT may take any measure as deemed necessary in the circumstances in order to enforce the rules.
- Any violation of the clauses above will be subject to the following Hall disciplinary action(s):
- Warning
- Suspension
- Removal from hall
