Since its inception in 1972, the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia prides itself in providing a liberal and comprehensive study of law as a scholarly discipline. It trains and equips students with professional skills and ethics of the legal profession, combined with a critical outlook of the law as an element for social organization, social change and justice. Degrees offered by the Faculty include the Bachelor of Laws and the Bachelor of Jurisprudence degrees. At the postgraduate level, besides the Master of Laws and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees, the Faculty also offers the Master of Criminal Justice and Master of Commercial Law degrees.

Recognizing the value and need for advancing legal knowledge through quality research, the Faculty currently hosts three research centres, Centre for Law and Ethics in Science and Technology (CELEST), Centre for Legal Pluralism and Indigenous Law (CLPIL) and the Universiti Malaya Centre for Regulatory Studies (UMCoRS). CELEST engages and promotes research into legal and ethical implications in the broad field of science and technology whereas CLPIL explores issues relating to legal pluralism and indigenous law. UMCoRS serves as a focal point for multi-disciplinary research where the law intersects with business, economy, innovation, growth and competition.
