Liu
Bie Ju Centre for Mathematical Sciences Organized by Prof. Philippe G. Ciarlet and Prof. Roderick Wong Construction and Computational Implementation of Green’s Functions
Date: April 2, 2008 (Wednesday) Abstract: This lecture is designed to attract graduate students whose main interest is in applied partial differential equations and who are looking for productive analytic and semi-analytic methods for solution of boundary value problems. An emphasis will be made on the importance of Green’s functions in the qualitative theory of ODEs and PDEs. We will also focus on practical procedures for the construction of Green’s functions for elliptic and parabolic equations, with a specific attention paid to the analytic expression of their singular components. The potential of Green’s function-based numerical algorithms will be illustrated with a number of examples. ** All interested are welcome ** For enquiry: 2788-9816
