Career Talk: The Role of Medical Physicists in Healthcare

To celebrate the International Day of Medical Physics 2018, we are pleased to invite Dr Darrell Li and Dr Matthew Cheung from the Hong Kong Association of Medical Physics to deliver a talk on the Role of Medical Physicists in Healthcare on 7 Nov 2018.

Our students have gained some eye-opening exposures to the important role of medical physics in healthcare. The role of Medical Physicists is to ensure the safe and effective delivery of radiotherapy and diagnostic imaging for patients. The services provided can include those related to external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy, and the development and advancement of medical imaging techniques. The majority of medical physicists work in hospitals where they are committed to improve patient care by ensuring the safe and accurate use of imaging and radiation equipment. They always perform quality assurance and machine maintenance. For the radiotherapy stream, they work closely with radiation therapists and oncologists to design and develop treatment plans. For the imaging stream, they help to develop protocols that optimize image quality and effectiveness while minimizing risk to the patients.

Medical Physicists, an inspiring career for physics students who are interested in working in medicine and healthcare.
