Study Tours 2017

The Department has organized two study tours for PHY students in Summer 2017.

Japan Study Tour

There were 15 students joined the study tour in Japan on 4-10 June 2017. They visited the Nagoya University, Lixil Enokido Factory, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC), Kyoto University, and Universal Communication Researh Institute – Network for Information & Computer Technology (NICT).

Mr WONG Cheuk Yiu (BScAP, Year-2) was surprised to see the demonstration of steel plate making in NSSMC, “They first showed the process of rolling thick pieces of steel to fine-size steel plates, then the process of cutting a thick steel. I have never been to that close to see a large piece of heated steel. It was definitely an unforgettable memory in my life,” said Cheuk Yiu.

Singapore Study Tour

There were 16 students joined the study tour in Singapore on 21-27 May 2017. They visited the National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), National Museum of Singapore, and Marina Barrage.

Apart from all the advanced technologies, Miss Caterina LEUNG (BDAP, Year-1) was also impressed by the green environment of the universities, “The universities did not provide air-conditioning in both the canteen and the common area, and this enabled the students to get used to the idea of energy conservation. The fuel on earth is almost exhausted, such education and habits are crucial for our survival,” said Caterina.
