Prof. Ma is a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, lecturing in areas of geometric design, CAD/CAM, finite element analysis, and rapid prototyping technologies. Before joining CityU in 1995, he worked as a research fellow at Materialise N.V., a rapid prototyping firm in Belgium, where he developed software modules on medical CAD modelling from Computed Tomography (CT) data. He also worked as a research fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, on CAD/CAM, reverse engineering, dimensional metrology and dimensional inspection, and as an instructor and engineer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (now School of Mechanical Engineering), East China Institute of Technology (now Nanjing University of Science and Technology), China, on dynamic measurement, mechanical vibration and design optimization. His present research interests include computer aided geometric design, CAD/CAM/CAE, isogeometric analysis and simulation, 3D printing and rapid manufacturing.
