Hong Kong universities in strong top 10 showing

Three local universities have secured spots in the top 10 of the QS Asia University Rankings 2025, with the University of Hong Kong maintaining its second-place position and City University making its debut at tenth.

Peking University continues to hold the top position for the third consecutive year, followed by the National University of Singapore in third place.

A total of six Hong Kong universities made it into the top 100. Chinese University climbed four spots to sixth, while CityU rose from 17th to 10th.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology improved its ranking to 11th, up four places while Polytechnic University moved up to 17th from 23rd.

However, Baptist University fell seven places to 71st, and Lingnan University plunged by 21 spots to 188th.

Education University of Hong Kong debuted at 212th out of 984 institutions.HKU welcomed its ranking, saying it reflects the university's commitment to maintaining its premier position.

A spokesman said: "This performance supports HKU's role in the government's 'Study in Hong Kong' initiative, aimed at transforming Hong Kong into a global hub for post-secondary education."

CUHK expressed satisfaction with its ranking, viewing it as validation of its leadership in international higher education.

"The university plans to continue its pursuit of excellence through innovation in research and teaching, while enhancing global collaborations," it said.

CityU said its ranking has steadily improved and "that breaking into the top 10 underscores its progress in academic research and commitment to innovation."

A HKUST spokesman said: "While rankings are useful references, the varying benchmarks used by different rankings can lead to differing outcomes."
