Appendix I:
Penalties for Library Offences and Serious Library Offences
- Unauthorized removal of books, serials, newspapers and other library materials will be treated in the same way.
- Library Offences: When a student leaves the Semi-closed Collection Room or the Library with uncharged library materials for the first time or second time, either in hand or in a bag, within twelve months.
- Serious Library Offences :
- When a student leaves the Semi-closed Collection Room or the Library with uncharged library materials for the third time or more within twelve months, either in hand or in a bag.
- When a student leaves the Semi-closed Collection Room or the Library with uncharged library materials hidden on his/her body at any time.
- When a student leaves the Semi-closed Collection Room or the Library with uncharged mutilated library materials either in hand or in a bag.
- When a student is found mutilating library materials.
- Penalty :
- Library Offences : a record will be kept in the Library for twelve months, and a verbal warning given by library staff.
- Serious Library Offences :
- If the offence is committed under 3(a), the offender would not be allowed to borrow books for one month; a HK$100 fine will be levied. A letter will be sent to the offender's College Dean/College Principal, Department/Division Head and the Student Development Services.
- If the offence is committed under 3(b), (c) or (d), the offender will not be allowed to borrow books for six months and will be charged a HK$250 penalty fine. A letter will be sent to his/her College Dean/College Principal, Department/Division Head, the Student Development Services, and parents.
- If the illegally removed material is found to have been mutilated but repairable, an additional HK$50 processing fee will be charged. If the item is beyond repair, the offender will be charged the replacement cost of the item plus a HK$50 processing fee.
